Hello & welcome

I’m Alida, the creator and voice behind Nutrition Kitchen; a place where I share my love of food and nutrition through my adventures both in the kitchen and in the classroom as I work towards becoming a registered dietitian.

I was lucky enough to grow up in a household where cooking dinner was the norm and eating out was saved for special occasions, and I think this is part of the reason why I enjoy it so much. I always liked to help out in the kitchen, and as soon as I could be trusted with a knife, I was up an’ at it, trying my hand at chocolate chip cookies, brownies and some other questionable experiments. Yes, I know none of the recipes I mentioned – with the exception of the experiments, perhaps – required the use of a knife, but you get the point.

I know that one of the biggest things that inspires me to cook and try new recipes is the pictures of beautiful, bright, vibrant, perfectly-plated food that I see online, so I can only hope that my kitchen adventures will inspire some of you. If you’re interested in nutrition, you will definitely find some straight-up, no nonsense, reliable, scientifically based nutrition facts and information here! I believe in preparing wholesome, delicious, real food recipes at home 90% of the time, but I also whole-heartedly embrace the little indulgences in life as a healthy way to achieving balance. People eat food, not nutrients, and I think that enjoying  what’s on your plate is just as important as its nutritional value.
